Digital Tech

Jayson Edward Carter

Fashion, Beauty, Stillife, Food

Know How:

Personable, patient, and thorough digital tech specializing in on-location on-figure shoots and in-studio still life. The bulk of my work is commercial, which informs my workflow and my understanding of how to maximize our time on set. I have a compact digital kit that I rent out on location, and have teched on several apparel campaigns from the Florida Keys to the cliffs of Northern California. In studio, I have an understanding of convention for both campaigns and ecommerce. As a digital tech, I like to utilize my lighting and Photoshop knowledge to help

present creative solutions to the challenges we run into on set, like seeing how well a product can be silhouetted and comped into another image. I pride myself on working quickly but accurately, energized by the trust of my colleagues. Likewise, my presence on set is confident yet collaborative. Nothing bolsters synergy like a pleasant team of professionals focused on keeping cool and pleasing the client!

Technically speaking, I'm proficient with Capture One, Helicon Focus, Adobe Creative Suite, ChronoSync, Perfect Resize while also having a rather thorough understanding of image formatting and data asset management.

References as assistant / Career

Went to school for photography and started retouching for a local production company. Familiarized myself with the brand identity of our client and consistently delivered double the daily required assets. Moved to NYC and began my journey into this wild world as an assistant in an equipment room. Slowly I began to immerse myself in the world of commercial photography, working my way onto set after building endless capture stations and following diagrams for fashion and beauty brands. I started photo assisting and scrutinizing both on-figure and still life lighting techniques, which strengthened the foundation of my understanding of light. Then after shadowing a few gracious digital techs, I was trusted to run the station on my own. After a few years with a production company, I had the intense and technical workflows of several heritage brands under my belt. I decided it was time to go freelance and hone these skills further. In my career I have worked with several brilliant artists whose passion and vision has made its mark on me, and I bring these experiences along as I look at each day on set as a new challenge.
